Frequently Asked Questions
What will I learn?
You will have an in-depth and immersive learning experience that includes the production of 8 compost piles by the group, over a 10-day period. You’ll learn from compost piles that are designed to succeed and others that are designed to fail, so that you can understand the principles and mechanics at play. You will also conduct nematode extractions and protozoan infusions, and you’ll make a compost extract and a compost tea at the workshop. In addition to this, you’ll be using your microscopy skills to assess the compost and liquid amendments, at key stages. This applied microscopy is an invaluable experience.
The workshop is sold out - can I join a waitlist in case there are cancellations?
Yes — please fill out the form below to join the standby list, and we will contact you as soon as a spot becomes available. We now use one Workshop Form for 2026, which allows you to either join the waitlist for a sold-out workshop or add yourself to the priority list for future workshops. Simply select the appropriate option from the dropdown menu.
These dates don’t work for me. Can I join the next workshop?
Yes — if these dates don’t work for you, please fill out the form below and select the option for the future workshop priority list. Where is the workshop being held?
The workshop will take place at Wild Ken Hill Estate, Heacham Bottom Farm in Norfolk, England, a site dedicated to restoring land to nature while practicing sustainable farming along the coast of West Norfolk. Rewilding, regenerative farming, and traditional conservation practices are used side-by-side in a unique, innovative approach. Its 4,000 acres stretch from the sea through coastal scrub, freshwater marshes, heathland, wood pasture to nature-rich farmland. 2,500+ species and counting have been recorded at Wild Ken Hill.
What are the visa requirements for entering the United Kingdom?

What is the Soil Food Web Complete Practicum, and how can this workshop help me advance in it?
The Soil Food Web Complete Practicum (SFW Practicum) is an advanced, mentored program designed for students who have completed the Foundation Courses and are ready to move from theory to hands-on practice. It’s science-grounded and built around real land, real challenges, and real goals, guiding students to read, build, feed, and work with living soil over a full growing season.
The Practicum is organized into four core modules:
- 🔬 Soil Microscopy – Build the skills to observe the life in your soil and assess biological health to guide every management decision.
- 🌿 BioComplete™ Compost Production – Learn to create compost that is alive and tailored to your soil’s specific needs.
- 💧 Biological Liquid Amendments – Design and brew site-specific liquid amendments to introduce and multiply beneficial biology.
- 🌾 Field Trials – Apply your knowledge and techniques over a full growing season with mentor guidance, directly on your own land.
This workshop provides an alternative pathway through the Practicum by giving you hands-on experience, guided instruction, and practical tools that align with the Practicum’s objectives. By participating, you receive BioComplete™ Compost Production, and Biological Liquid Amendments. Please note that to graduate Biological Liquid Amendments, Soil Microscopy needs to be completed before or after the Workshop.
Review the Enrollment Agreement for all terms and conditions.
How is it possible to graduate BioComplete™ Compost Production and Biological Liquid Amendments in a 10-day workshop?
This is a learning pathway that is equivalent to, but different from, the regular pathway that all SFW Advanced Program students are on. All the learning outcomes in BioComplete™ Compost Production and Biological Liquid Amendments are met in the workshop (excluding completion of Soil Microscopy, please see below for further information), which is ideal for students who learn best in an in-person environment.
In this workshop, students are given the opportunity to graduate BioComplete™ Compost Production (formerly Stage 1 of the CTP/GTP) and Biological Liquid Amendments (formerly Stage 2 of the CTP/GTP) by virtue of the fact that they will have an in-depth and immersive learning experience that includes the production of 8 compost piles by the group, over a 10-day period. You’ll learn from compost piles that are designed to succeed and others that are designed to fail, so that you can understand the principles and mechanics at play. You will also conduct nematode extractions and protozoan infusions, and you’ll make a compost extract and a compost tea at the workshop (satisfying Biological Liquid Amendments outcomes). In addition to this, you’ll be using your microscopy skills to assess the compost and liquid amendments, at key stages. This applied microscopy is an invaluable experience.
All learning outcomes from BioComplete™ Compost Production and Biological Liquid Amendments are covered in this intensive and informative learning experience which is sufficient for graduation of BioComplete™ Compost Production and Biological Liquid Amendments except for completion of Soil Microscopy. Students who are joining the workshop but who have yet to complete all the FCs and/or Soil Microscopy, may do so after the workshop, at which time they will graduate BioComplete™ Compost Production and Biological Liquid Amendments. Please read the Enrollment Agreement for further information before you register.
Will I graduate BioComplete™ Compost Production (formerly Stage 1 of the CTP/GTP) and Biological Liquid Amendments (formerly Stage 2 of the CTP/GTP) by attending this workshop?
You will graduate BioComplete™ Compost Production (formerly Stage 1 of the CTP/GTP) and Biological Liquid Amendments (formerly Stage 2 of the CTP/GTP) if you:
- Attend all 10 days of the workshop and fully participate in all activities.
- Complete all four of the Foundation Courses (FCs) and the Soil Microscopy Course.
- If you have not yet successfully completed all the FCs and/or the Soil Microscopy Course, you may do so after the workshop.
- Complete the Student Learning Objectives & Questions document with fully answered responses.
Please read the Enrollment Agreement for further information before you register.
How do I progress to Field Trials (formerly Stage 3)?
The prerequisites for entering Field Trials of the SFW Complete Practicum are listed in the Enrollment Agreement, and here:
- All students are required to make (at home) one compost pile with a minimum size of 200 gallons/760 liters to use for Field Trials, that meets the minimum biological requirements as set in the Course Manual. Ensuring these standards are met helps provide a strong biological foundation for effective soil regeneration.
- Students will need to perform a Remote Assessment of their compost to demonstrate that it meets the minimum biological requirements for solid compost.
- All students will be required to pay the enrollment fee for Field Trials, if they have not already done so.
- Once the quality of the student’s compost has been verified, the student will be able to enroll in Field Trials and will be assigned to an Instructor/Mentor who will guide them through the process of correctly preparing for their final project.
- If students need additional support with preparation of their compost for use in Field Trials, they can consult an Instructor/Mentor for assistance.
Is there a payment plan available?
No payment plans are available. However, U.S. residents can pay using Affirm, which allows them to pay over time.
Do we need to bring our microscope to the Workshop?
Yes, students are requested to bring their own microscope to the workshop. A small number of SFWF microscopes (approximately 4) will be available to share if necessary. Since microscopy is a significant part of the learning experience, we strongly encourage students to bring their own microscope to get the most benefit from the workshop.
Please be advised that you do so at your own risk. The Soil Food Web School cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to your personal equipment or belongings. If you are unable to bring a microscope, please email info@soilfoodweb.com and we will do our best to organize a shared microscope.
Where is the information about the Health and Safety Guidelines?
Health and Safety guidelines are included in the Workshop Handbook. Please read it with special attention to any health and safety information before attending the workshop.
In an effort to prevent paper waste, you will be sent a copy of the Workshop Handbook to sign electronically before the start of the workshop. If you are unable to sign electronically, we will ask you to fill out the emergency contact information, sign, and return the last page to the SFWS Safety Officer on Day 1 of the workshop.
Will meals be provided during the workshop?
During the workshop (Monday-Friday), lunch will be provided onsite for all attendees; please plan to stay onsite for this meal as we want to ensure that sessions before and after lunch start and end on time. Refreshments and snacks will be provided throughout the day at the workshop.
Attendees are expected to provide their own breakfasts and dinners.
